Carrot Seed Oil is an earthy and full bodied oil which has a number of health benefits and healing properties. It is antibacterial, antimicrobial and also a great antioxidant. It’s popular in aromatherapy to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety, and used in topical applications improving the skins complexion and texture.

In ancient medicine, carrot seed oil was known for its carminative properties, according to unconfirmed sources. While that may sound rather fancy, it actually means people used it to relieve flatulence!
Not much is actually known about the origin of carrot seed oil, but it is most often obtained from wild carrots in European countries. There is a common misconception about carrot seed oil as compared to carrot oil. According to Aromatherapy Science: A Guide for Healthcare Professionals, they are often misquoted or erroneously interchanged. This is an important distinction, because carrot oil (functioning as a base or carrier oil) is rich in vitamin A and does not provide an essential oil.

Similarly, when discussing carrot seed oil, it’s important to know specifically what you’re discussing. Studies are lacking on the benefits of carrot seed essential oil, while several exist that examine the benefits of carrot seed oil, a cold-pressed oil derived from carrot seeds.

Conversely, carrot seed oil and carrot seed essential oil have no vitamin A, although they include incredible antioxidants to help protect against disease.

• DIY Facial Moisturizer (Dry or Combination Skin):
4 drops Sandalwood
3 drops Carrot Seed
1/2 teaspoon Carrier oil (Jojoba, Fractionated Coconut Oil, Grapeseed)

Wash face. Add moisturizer to face 1-2 times a day.

• DIY MASK Goodbye, dry skin!
1 tbsp banana
1/4 tbsp ground oats
2-3 drops of carrot seed essential oil

You can’t think of a better skin exfoliator than oats. Combine all ingredients and apply it to dry skin. Gently scrub in circular motions and give it a good cleanse post 20 minutes. You can follow up with a moisturiser once you’re pat your skin dry.

1/2 tbsp papaya paste
1 tbsp aloe vera gel
2-3 drops of carrot seed essential oil

Take a clean bowl and mix all three ingredients. Don’t forget to mash the papaya and dilute the essential oil say coconut oil can help. Mix all three ingredients and smear them on cleansed face. Wash it off with tepid water after 20 minutes and pat dry with a towel. Repeat this twice a week for good results.

Add it to your sunscreen: Carrot Seed Oil can be a useful addition to your sunscreen, so feel free to add a drop or two of this oil to it before you head out the door.

• Relaxing and therapeutic bath: mix 5 drops of Carrot Seed Oil with 2 drops of Sandalwood Oil and 2 drops of Rose. Pour this blend under warm running water into your bathtub.

– Do not use during the first three months of pregnancy and breastfeeding, or in children under 6 years of age.
– Keep out of reach of children.
– As an indication, always test the application of your preparation, in the elbow, at least 48 hours before using it.
