Ravintsara is named after the Malagasy word ‘ravina’, meaning leaf, and ‘tsara’, meaning good. It literally means ‘tree with good leaves’ or ‘leaf good for all’. The name is very appropriate, given that it is extremely versatile, and is said to help with everything, from headaches and colds, to depression and anxiety.

It contains aromatic substances – sabinen, 1,8cineol and α-terpineol which give it antibacterial, antiviral, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory properties. Ravintsara oil strengthens immunity, has antimicrobial, antiallergic, and antiseptic effects. It has antirheumatic, antispasmodic, mucolytic, and stimulant therapeutic properties. It is expectorant, decongestant, and anti-catarrhal, which means it helps with angina, bronchitis, and sinusitis. This list shows us how versatile and powerful this oil is.

Although it’s not as popular in the media as lavender, mint, incense, and other essential oils, its use and benefits are so numerous that it’s often called a “must in every home pharmacy cabinet”. Here are some:

Fatigue and immunity massage rub: Dilute 3 drops of ravintsara essential oil in 8 drops of sweet almond vegetable oil, then spread the mixture on the sternum, upper back, wrists and elbows, 3 times a day for 10 days. From 7 years of age.

RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTION ( in olfaction, diffusion or inhalation )

Diffusion against flu: mix in equal quantities French Lavender, ravintsara and eucalyptus. Diffuse 1/2 hour morning and evening. You can also use this formula in prevention, in an office for example. This can prevent getting the flu in case of an epidemic

Clear cough: mix 2 drops eucalyptus globulus / 2 drops ravintsara and 3 drops niaouli in your diffuser. Diffuse for 30 minutes a day. Repeat for 3 to 5 days.
Start the diffusion at the first signs of coughing to get rid of it as quickly as possible. It will avoid the spread of viruses and the risk of transmission to other people.
